Pao National High School is a public secondary school located within the first district of City of San Fernando. It is about 17 kilometers east of the city proper. It formally opened its school doors to the community on June 5, 1965 with 30 students and a full-time teacher in the person of Mrs. Leoncia Duclayan. The first name of the school was Pao Norte Barrio High School and was headed by Miss Felicidad Malupa, the Pao Community School administrator. It operated smoothly and it has expanded its catchment area to its nine adjacent barangays; Apaleng, Bangbangolan, Baraoas, Cabarsican, Masicong, Pacpaco, Pao Norte, Pao Sur, and Sacyud.

1976- The name of the school was changed to Pao Barangay High School.
1985- Mr. Vicente F. Flores Jr. took over both Pao Barangay High School and Pao Community School. Sports was also intensified during this time.
1989– Mr. Primitivo Mostoles was designated as first Teacher In-charge. This was the time when high school management was separated from elementary. Pao Barangay High School was also changed to Pao 189 High School.
1990– The Bagong Lipunan building, a one-storey two classroom building was built.
1992– During the administration of Mrs. Jean A. Peralta, the school was named Pao High School.
1995– The school’s electricity was provided.
1999– The school was named to Pao National High School.
1998- Mr. Ernesto N. Nacis was designated as Officer In-charge It was during his administration when the hilly part of the school was flattened.
2010- the Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce donated a one-storey two-classroom with two adjacent comfort rooms which completed the four classrooms of the school.
2011– Mrs. Juanita C. Ariola was designated as Officer In-charge.
2012-2013 - Two more one-storey building were constructed respectively.
2014– The school ground was built.
2015– The school’s stage and student center were established. The school’s first school
paper, ‘The Courier, was also created during this time.
August 2016– The Senior High School building was built.
November 2016– Rodrigo B. Panit Jr. was installed as Officer In-charge then later became the School Principal of the school.
2016 onwards– School facilities and grounds were improved.
-Soil barriers and semi-permanent accessories
-Gulayan sa Paaralan were constructed
-The Students’ Code of Discipline was also created which was amended and
approved by the General Parent-Teacher Association.
February 2017- Delmar Galvez, grade 7 student, won the Robotics Technology of
National Science Quest at Baguio City which gave the opportunity to the school to be sent at the 3rd World Robot Games at Singapore on November 9-12, 2017.
At present- Pao National High School continues to develop physically and academically.
It offers programs such as ICT Literacy, Robotics, Music and Arts, and Sports Development.
